| Thallus crustose, leprose, creamy white, pale  yellow-grey or pale yellow-green, forming extensive irregularly spreading  patches to 7 cm wide, or small irregularly rounded colonies 5–20 mm wide which  eventually coalesce, thin or up to 250 μm thick. Margin usually delimited,  well-defined lobes absent, but sublobes often present, 0.2–1.0 mm wide. Soredia  dispersed or forming a thick continuous layer, ±globose, 20–50 μm wide,  commonly aggregated in roundish clumps  (consoredia) to 100–225 μm wide, with long projecting hyphae at the base and  along the margins (to 0.2 mm long) and shorter projecting hyphae within 
(50–125 μm long). Medulla white and patchily distinct, or absent. Hyphae 2–4 μm  thick. Lower surface not apparent, without a tomentum.Photobiont cells ±spherical, 5–12 μm diam., sometimes  with autospores visible inside. Hypothallus pale brown to black or not apparent.
